Optimum angle of view - beautiful portraits
The 85 mm lens from SAMYANG is an ideal focal length, it provides concentration on the essential. When attached to an MFT camera, the 85/1.8 produces an angle of view of 19.1°, which is roughly equivalent to the image impression of a 135 mm lens. The fast open aperture of 1.8 not only provides an extremely bright viewfinder, but also the possibility of cropping through the smallest depth of field. The very compact design provides comfortable handling with a well-balanced centre of gravity.
High-quality optics and mechanics
The lens offers a closest focusing distance of 65 cm. With nine elements arranged in seven groups, the lenses are intricately designed to deliver high resolution from centre to edge. The optics include a high refractive index lens and an ED (extra-low dispersion) lens, which together with a multi-coating (Ultra-Multi-Coating (UMC)) effectively help against chromatic aberrations and unnecessary ghosting. The lens has high contrast and is well suited for portraits, close-ups, food and landscape photography as well as snapshots. For portraits, it delivers images with a beautiful sharpness gradient and thus offers the best possible cropping of the subject at open aperture. The iris diaphragm has 9 blades and an almost circular aperture. The progression into blur is harmoniously reproduced with fine bokeh. Everything is rounded off by precise mechanics, clearly latching aperture values and production in a high-quality metal mount.
More fun with manual focus
Manual lenses offer excellent image quality and beautifully graduated backgrounds. So the Samyang 85mm F1.8 is the perfect lens for all those photographers who enjoy showing their individuality in their images.
Lightweight and compact design
The lens weighs 405 g including lens cap and lens hood and is 80.7 mm long (without lens hood). Nevertheless, it offers the photographer attractive results and unique images with excellent resolution - regardless of the time of day or location.
